Saints missed church Sunday pass and got punished by the almighty for it. Arsenal struggled in their fixture to show why they sitting sixth place, and why Southampton sit in ‘plungeville’.

Mark Hughes has an upstream swim in rapid waters with the challenge he’s accepted. Normally the Saints can count their blessings playing a Sunday fixture. However, they were outdone to a fighting-spirited Arsenal.

Since losing three in a row in their Premier League campaign – they [Arsenal] have now won three in as many, scoring three goals in each game in the process. Nine goals scored, two goals conceded, and two clean sheets warrants a fantastic run for the North London club.

They do not move up or down but they making sure they finish strong this season. Every match fought by the Gunners is step in preparations for their European run.

The visitors need to regroup and take the positives from this one. With Austin and Long on target – they should be happy they can maybe try again.  They have a game in hand, so they should use it to their advantage. All is not loss for the Saints.

Quick game recap

Goals on either end of the half showcased the exciting match at the Emirates. The Saints went up through a responsive Shane Long and sleeping Cech, and Mustafi. Not long after, 11 minutes later to be precise – new signing Aubameyang came to the rescue once again.

More from The Top Flight

Danny Welbeck’s persistence paid off in the best way possible when he was rewarded with a goal just before the halftime break. This shifted the force and awoken was the Jedi knights at the Emirates as they went into the break 2-1 up.

Hughes men had also fought a tough fight. Unfortunately, the fighter in the red corner was too much for them. They managed to level the odds through injury-returned, Charlie Austin. Late equalizer and an Arsenal team with no fight normally – you’d think the points were going to be shared amongst the two.

But one Englishman had other ideas and was again pursed with a second goal to completed his brace against a struggling Southampton side, to steal the show. The late goal was enough to stop the prayers of the Saints and hand Arsenal all three points.

Wenger needs to ask questions to why he went down first and why it took his men two halves to bury the result. Honestly, it could be that this is Arsenal’s longest run in a European competition – while having to fight in the Premier League. But a well contested match and the right outcome at the end of the day.

In the name of the Wenger, Aubameyang, and the Welbeck brace… Amen!
