Premier League: Five Players Eyeing Moves To Bigger Teams?
By Luke Duffy
Aaron Cresswell – West Ham
Probably the most under the radar player on this list to begin the season, and that’s probably saying a lot in itself. The young English defender was recently voted the Hammers’ Player of the Season thanks to his excellent displays at the back. So dependable at the back, while also more than capable of striking a ball as well.
His bombing runs forward never took away from his defensive duties or capabilities, unlike some players in the league. While West Ham enjoyed a brilliant start to the campaign before flaming out pretty badly, Cresswell was the one constant at the back. That alone is reason to be optimistic about his future in the game.
Where it gets interesting however, is the fact that the Liverpudlian could possibly step up to the next level this summer if the right team came in for him. As a left back, teams such as Arsenal have struggled to find consistency in that area, the very thing he brings to a team.
The fact he covers every blade of grass and can attack and defend would certainly suit a team like Arsenal as well. Unlike other cases here, it may be best for Cresswell to jump ship as soon as possible. There’s always the risk of fading into obscurity, but with Sam Allardyce let go as manager of the team, and a poor end of season behind them, this is a team that could certainly struggle next year. Cresswell is too good for that, and perhaps this summer a bigger team will take a chance on him.
