Premier League: Five Players Eyeing Moves To Bigger Teams?
By Luke Duffy
Sadio Mane – Southampton
If Bolasie was one of the star turns out of all the players from teams outside the top four this season, then Sadio Mane was right there with him. Where he goes one better than the DR Congo international however, is the fact he played in a Southampton team that occupied a top four spot for much of the season. Add to that his 10 goals from 30 appearances on the wing, and it’s little wonder the 23 year old makes this list.

Searing pace and an eye for goal, he’s the type of player you want in your team. He brings with him that added goal threat from the wings as well as his work rate without the ball. He is the type of wide man full backs must surely enjoy playing with. With Shane Long and Graziano Pelle often flattering to deceive in front of goal, it must have been comforting for the Saints to know Mane was a threat as well.
Perhaps staying where he is would be best for his development however. Again it’s unclear if he would break into any of the top four sides in the league, and it’s not like Southampton is a bad place to be right now. Assuming they can keep much of their core together, they’ll be right up there against next season.
A move to the capital and Tottenham Hotspur may interest some, but right now that would be a sidewards move and little else. There’s little doubt Spurs are a bigger club with more resources, but there not a million miles better than Southampton. Best to harass opponents in the red and white for another couple of years before hopefully making the step up.
